Psst! We have updated our playlist with our Top Picks from the new sounds that were released across the African continent this week.
Peruzzi – Somebody Baby ft. Davido (NG)
Ahead of his much awaited album, Rum and Boogie, Peruzzi blesses us with ‘Somebody Baby’ featuring the Baddest himself. On the song, they sing about the uncertainty in their relationships and how they shower their love interest with love, affection and gifts while she gives her heart to someone else.
Yinoluu x Riverays – Tumble (NG)
Talented Nigerian alternative music producer Yinoluu pairs up with the Ukraine-based alternative music duo Riverays on this one titled ‘Tumble’. It is a calm, groovy song on which they sing about doing fancy things with their muses. Tumble is the promotional single off his coming EP ‘Petal Scent’ that is currently on Pre-save.
Manifest – No Fear ft. Vic Mensa, Moliy (GH)
Manifest features Chicago rapper Vic Mensa and Moliy on this track titled ‘No Fear’. It is a hip hop beat blended with Afrocentric elements on which the artistes sing about not having fear.
Angelique Kidjo – Dignity ft. Yemi Alade (RB)
Two African music queens on one song, delivering yet another stellar African song about dignity and respect. Love to see it. The African beats, the vocals, back ups, everything just screams African roots. A must listen.
One of Ghana’s preeminent starts of Ghana’s drill movement, Yaw Tog releases his debut EP titled ‘Time’ and on the amazing body of work is this jiggy hip hop song. It has a very catchy hook that you will find yourself randomly singing. It’s about the lifestyle of big boys, so to speak.
South African singer Sio releases ‘Locked’ in anticipation for her full-length project Features, set to drop in April. It’s an Electronic Dance track riddled with core House beats.
Crayon – Too Correct ft. Rema (NG)
It is Crayon season, guys. ‘Too Correct’ is a personal favourite off his freshly released EP Twelve AM, and on this, he features Afrobeats Golden boy Rema. ‘Too Correct’ is an Amapiano inspired song on which they sing about a lady who catches their attention. Rema delivers an amazing hook, as always, giving the song the right amount of sauce that qualifies it to become one of the biggest Amapiano songs to come out of Nigeria.
Mavin x Rema – Peace Of Mind Remix ft. Virgil Abloh, Fela Kuti (NG)
Love how the major difference between this song and the original is the new infusion of beats and a sample of Fela’s sounds. Definitely a club banger.
Ninety9 – Fancy ft. Africaine (NG)
Ninety9 features US-based Artiste, Africaine on ‘Fancy’, a song that expresses superficial love and expensive lifestyle, which is adored by the youth of today’s generation. Ninety9 sings to his muse about how he is trying to prove his love to her while she asks him to do it in an expensive way.
